Our Process & Approach

We approach every project as a collaborative endeavor with our clients. Our designers will work to incorporate your ideas while providing guidance and suggestions to further refine your room.

Whether your kitchen or bath design requires creation from the ground up or renovation of an existing space, working with One of a Kind Design will save you time, resources and undue stress—while also ensuring a beautiful, functional finished product.

Our design team excels in a wide range of interior styles to suit your taste or help you further define it. One of a Kind Design, and our parent company Colony Builders, has over 30 years experience in creating spaces that make living easier.

We invite you to take the first step toward achieving the kitchen and bath of your dreams. Call or visit our showroom to learn more about our design process.

Consultation

One of our experienced Designers will meet with you in your home to discuss your dreams and desires.

Preliminary Design

Choose to continue working with One of a Kind Design by signing the Retainer Agreement. Our retainer fees range from $1,000 to 3% of the estimated project cost. The retainer fee is non-refundable, but will be credited dollar for dollar towards the final project costs.

Within approximately two weeks your Designer will call you to set up a time to meet at our showroom and review the initial drawings and project costs.

If necessary, depending on the scope of your project, we will schedule a contractor to visit your home.

Design Revisions

Several appointments may need to be made depending on the scope of your project. The pace of this phase of the project will be set based on your schedule, but should take one to three months depending on the scope.

During this time you will be selecting appliances, fixtures, cabinet style and other finishes.

Final Design

After final decisions have been made you will meet to review final specifications and sign a contract.

At this point a 50% deposit is due (less retainer).

Discuss timeline and completion date.

There will be a four to six week period before construction starts to allow for ordering materials and job scheduling.

Confirm Delivery

Prior to delivery of your materials, we will contact you to confirm delivery details.

Installation

Please note countertops can’t be templated until after the base cabinets have been installed. Once they are installed the fabricator will take measurements. Countertop installation will take place approximately two weeks after templating.

Please note glass shower doors or enclosures for bathroom remodels can’t be templated until after all tile work is complete. Once all tile work is complete the fabricator will take measurements. Glass installation will take place approximately four weeks after templating.

Your Designer will keep you updated throughout the process and visit your home during installation to ensure a smooth process.

Project Completion

Once your project is complete, and you have been using your new space for a few days, we will schedule a walk-through with you and create a “punch list” of any items that still need attention.

Receive your care and warranty package.

Once the punch list has been completed, the final 10% will be due.
